Where to Buy Gold Bars and Biscuits in Doha with Lowest Making Charges
⏱️ Calculating reading time...
If you live in Doha and want to buy gold bars or biscuits for investment, first question is where to buy with lowest making charges. I had same question last year. I went to Gold Souq with my uncle, we checked 5-6 shops, every shop told different making charge. Some said zero, some said 15 QAR per gram. So I got confused.
After that I visited almost all famous places in Doha for gold bars, asked rates, noted making charges. So I am sharing my personal experience here, where you can get lowest making, what to check, and how to avoid overpaying.
Why Gold Bars Are Better Than Jewelry for Investment
When you buy jewelry, you pay making charges 20 to 50 QAR per gram, plus wastage. When you sell it back, shop will not give you making charges. You lose that money. On 20 grams, you lose 500 to 800 QAR easily.
But gold bars and biscuits have almost zero making charges. Most shops in Doha sell 24K bars with only 2 to 5 QAR per gram premium, or sometimes zero if you buy 50 or 100 gram bar. So your full money stays as gold value.
That's why if you check Qatar gold price, you will see people who invest always buy bars, not necklaces. And 24K bar is accepted anywhere in world.
What is Making Charge on Gold Bars?
Many shops advertise "Zero Making Charge" on gold bars. But is it really zero? For small bars like 1 gram, 2.5 gram, 5 gram, shops charge 5 to 12 QAR per gram. Because they have packing, certificate.
For bigger bars like 10 gram, 20 gram, 50 gram, 100 gram, most big shops give almost zero making or just 1-2 QAR per gram. Some even give spot rate.
So when you search for Qatar gold price today for 24K, that rate is for 1 gram. But if you buy 50 gram bar, you pay almost same rate, no extra.
I bought a 10 gram bar from Malabar last month, they charged only 2 QAR per gram extra. So for 10 grams I paid 20 QAR making, which is nothing compared to jewelry making 300 QAR.
Best Places in Doha to Buy Gold Bars with Lowest Making
- Doha Gold Souq (Near Souq Waqif)
This is oldest and best place. There are 80+ shops. Competition is high, so making charges are lowest here.
In Gold Souq, for 24K bars, making is usually 0-3 QAR per gram if you buy 10 gram or more. For 1 gram, they charge 8-10 QAR. You can bargain.
I always check Qatar gold price today on https://qatargoldratetoday.com/ before entering Souq, so I know exact rate. If they say more than 3 QAR, I go to next shop.
Gold Souq is best for lowest making because shops compete.
- Big Brand Jewelers - Malabar, Joyalukkas, Kalyan
These big brands are slightly more expensive than Gold Souq for small bars, but very trusted for purity and bill.
Malabar Gold - They often have zero making offer on 8 gram to 100 gram bars during festivals. I got zero making on 10 gram bar during Diwali.
Joyalukkas - Making 2-4 QAR per gram for bars above 10 gram. Good for branded packing.
Kalyan Jewellers - Making around 3-5 QAR per gram, but they give good exchange rate if you want to sell old gold.
If you want branded and safe, go to these. If you want lowest making, Gold Souq is still cheaper.
- Banks in Qatar - QNB, Doha Bank
Some banks in Doha also sell gold bars. QNB and Doha Bank sell 24K bars from 1 gram to 100 gram. Their making is almost zero, they sell at Qatar gold price plus small margin, like 1-2%.
But bank process is slow, you need account, and they don't always have stock. Still, for long term investment and zero making, banks are good option.
4. Online - Check Rates First
I always check https://qatargoldratetoday.com/ for Qatar live rate and https://omangoldratetoday.com/blogs/ to see Oman trend and making charge comparison. Their blogs explain which shops have offers.
Also, if you have family in US and you want to understand saving for big investments like gold, you can check https://petinsusa.com/ - they talk about budgeting and saving for valuable purchases.
Don't buy gold bars from random Instagram pages. Many fake. Always buy from physical shop and take bill.
How to Get Lowest Making Charge - My Tricks
- Buy bigger weight: 1 gram bar has highest making per gram. 50 gram and 100 gram have lowest. If you have budget, buy one 20 gram instead of two 10 gram.
- Bargain: In Gold Souq, always bargain. If shop says 5 QAR per gram making, say "last shop gave 2 QAR". They will reduce.
- Check Qatar gold rate today morning: Gold rate changes twice daily. If you buy when rate is slightly down, you save more than making itself. I check rate on https://Qatargoldratetoday.com/ every morning.
- Festival offers: During Eid, Diwali, National Day, most big brands give zero making on bars. Wait for that if not urgent.
- Take bill with purity: Always ask for bill that mentions 999.9 purity for 24K bar, weight, rate, making separately.
- Compare 3 shops minimum: Don't buy from first shop. Check at least 3 shops. Difference of 2 QAR per gram on 50 grams is 100 QAR.
My Personal Recommendation
For small bars 1-5 gram for gifting, I go to Malabar or Joyalukkas when they have zero making offer. Safe and branded packing.
For investment 10 gram and above, I go to Doha Gold Souq. Shops there give lowest making, 0-2 QAR per gram if you bargain well. I have two fixed shops there now, they give me spot rate because I am regular.
For very big investment 100 gram, I would go to bank. Lowest making, but need locker.
One more tip - don't buy 22K bars for investment. Some shops sell 22K bars cheaper, but when you sell, you get less value than 24K. Always buy 24K 999.9.
Final Words
Buying gold bars and biscuits in Doha is easy if you know where to go. Gold Souq is still king for lowest making charges, big brands are good for trust and offers, and banks are good for large investment.
Before you go, always check Qatar gold rate today online so you know exact gram rate. Open https://qatargoldratetoday.com/ on your phone, check 24K rate, then go to shop and ask per gram premium.
Before buying, I always compare Qatar gold price in two shops to make sure I'm getting best deal. Don't pay high making on bars. Making on bars should be max 2-3 QAR per gram, ideally zero. If shop asks 10 QAR per gram for 20 gram bar, walk away.
Gold is not just jewelry, it's future security. Whether you buy 5 grams or 50 grams, knowing where to buy with lowest making will save you hundreds of QAR. Once you understand Qatar gold price and how making works on bars, you will never overpay.
